Ultimate Fighter Finale will take place from the Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas with the main card bouts airing live on FX at 9PM ET.
The main event of Saturday’s card is a heavyweight clash featuring Roy Nelson (17-7) and Matt Mitrione (5-1). According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Nelson is the favorite to win this bout, as he has odds of -215, while Mitirone comes in with a money line of +175. Both fighters are relatively standup fighters. Nelson has a black belt in jiu-jitsu, but rarely uses it. Mitrione has some grappling skills, but prefers to use footwork and boxing to win his bouts. Nelson should be able to win this fight, as he has an iron chin and is the better striker of the two. The only way he loses this fight is if he gasses out, which could happen. Mitrione hasn’t fought in over a year when he lost a decision to Cheick Kongo. Mitrione couldn’t work his striking in the bout, and that should be an issue in this fight as well.
In the co-main event, the Ultimate Fighter for the season will be crowned as welterweights Mike Ricci (7-2) and Colton Smith (3-1) meet up. According to oddsmakers, Ricci is the favorite in this bout, as he has odds of -240 to win. Smith comes in with a money line of +190. Ricci has more experience coming into this fight and he trains at Tristar gym with welterweights like Rory MacDonald and Georges St. Pierre, who are both elite-level fighters. Smith has some strong ground skills, but he doesn’t have the same training partners and experience that Ricci has, which could lead to trouble on Saturday.
