Mayweather dominates Alvarez
LAS VEGAS, NV (The Spread) – Floyd Mayweather Jr. added another impressive win to his legendary career on Saturday as he defeated Saul “Canelo” Alvarez by majority decision.
This fight took place from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and was for the WBA (Super) Light Middleweight title and WBC & The Ring Light Middleweight titles.
Mayweather looked great from the start, using his jab to keep Canelo at bay and then working his quickness to get inside Canelo’s reach and then back out before the challenger could counter. Mayweather never was really in danger, as Canelo’s face was looking beat up early. Canelo looked slower as the fight went on while Mayweather seemed to get faster. After 12 rounds of action, Mayweather was deemed the winner on two scorecards, 116-112 and 117-111, while a third judge surprisingly scored the fight a draw at 114-114.
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Mayweather Jr. was the favorite to win this bout, as he had a money line of -280 to win, which means a wager of $280 on Mayweather to win will pay out an additional $100.
Mayweather now improves to 45-0-0 in his career with 26 KOs. Alvarez suffers his first defeat in the loss, with his record falling to 42-1-1 with 30 KOs.
