Evans vs. Ortiz Free Pick
PHILADELPHIA, PA (TheSpread) – The main event of UFC 133 on Saturday night is a rematch between to light heavyweights as Rashad Evans and Tito Ortiz will collide.
According to oddsmakers Evans is the favorite to win this rematch with odds of -450 while Ortiz has odds of +350. UFC 133 takes place from the Wells Fargo Arena in Philadelphia and airs live on PPV, starting at 9PM ET.
WHY PICK EVANS
Evans (15-1-1) is considered the No. 1 contender for the light heavyweight championship. He was the champion back in 2009 and has worked his way back to a title shot, but is putting that on the line in this fight. Evans has a combination of fast hands for striking and explosive wrestling. He was a college wrestler at Michigan State and has had success getting most of his opponents to the ground when he wants to. Evans’ opponent, Ortiz, has won just one fight in the last five years and has seemed to be past his prime for a few years now.
WHY PICK ORTIZ
Ortiz (16-8-1) is coming off a win just a month ago over Ryan Bader. It ended a fight-fight winless steak for Ortiz, who is trying to keep his career relevant. A pioneer of MMA, Ortiz has been a ground-and-pound fighter that ran through competition years ago, but hasn’t been able to get today’s opponents to the ground. One thing Ortiz has going for him in this fight is that he has nothing to lose in a sense, as he is taking the fight on short notice and nobody expects him to win. In the first fight, he actually could have won, put a point deduction against him led to a draw.
WHO TO PICK?
Evans has evolved a lot more than Ortiz since these two last met. Ortiz showed at UFC 132 that he is still dangerous, but Evans should be able to out-strike and out-grapple Ortiz. I see Evans mixing things up and doing enough to easily earn a decision victory.
UFC 133 FREE PICK: RASHAD EVANS -450
