After nearly losing to Sonnen in their first bout, Silva looked to be in trouble early, as he spent the entire first round on his back. However, in the second round, he was able to avoid the takedown and land some big strikes, including a knee to the body that were too much for Sonnen to handle. The fight was stopped 1:55 into the second round.
According to oddsmakers, Silva had odds of -275 to win this bout, which means a wager of $275 will pay out an additional $100.
In the co-main event, Forrest Griffin won the rubber match with Tito Ortiz by unanimous decision. The two had another competitive fight, with each man winning at least one round, but Ortiz seemed to tire early on and Griffin lands three times the strikes that Ortiz did. The judges saw the fight as 29-28 across the board for Griffin. According to oddsmakers, Griffin had odds of -310 to win this fight, which means a wager of $310 on Griffin will pay out an additional $100.
