Klitschko vs. Haye Free Pick
According to oddsmakers from online sportsbook Bodog, Klitschko comes in as the favorite with odds of -260, while Haye has odds of +200. Saturday’s championship bout will be for the WBO, IBF, IBO, The Ring, and the WBA Heavyweight Championships. The event will air live on HBO on Saturday at 4:45PM ET.
Wladimir Klitschko (55-3-0, 49 KO’s)
Strengths: Klitschko is a powerful puncher and his size (6-foot-5) creates a lot of problems for his opponents, as he tends to tower over them and make it hard for them to get inside his 81-inch reach. Klitschko likes to use that reach to keep his opponents at bay, where he can pepper them with a jab before following up with some potent combinations.
Weaknesses: Klitschko has been suspect to some knockouts and in two of his losses, he started slow and really got dominated. Some of his problems come from facing a lefty, but he has since been able to combat that. In this fight, he is facing a relatively untested opponent who has a lot to gain, so Klitschko will probably have to try and survive an early surge from Haye.
David Haye (25-1, 23 KO’s)
Strengths: Haye has good quickness, which leads to him having good power. In his time at heavyweight, he has three wins by TKO with two coming in the fifth round or sooner. The native of England has a good reach to work with, which might allow him to get inside the bigger size of Klitschko.
Weaknesses: Haye will be the smaller fighter (6-3) as Klitschko has a longer reach and bigger frame at 6-5. Haye is also relatively untested in the division, especially compared to Klitschko, who has been prominent in the heavyweight division for quite some time. This will be the biggest fight in his career, so the stage could be a lot for him to handle.
Who to pick: Haye may be one of the tougher guys that Klitschko has fought recently, but he still doesn’t seem to matchup well with Klitschko. I like the favorite to use his size and power to tire Haye and give the underdog a real taste of heavyweight boxing. I don’t see this fight going the full 12 rounds. I like Klitschko to finish the fight in the 7th-9th round range. BOXING FREE PICK: Wladimir Klitschko -260
