Aldo vs. Hominick Free Pick
TORONTO, Ontario (TheSpread) – The co-main event of Saturday’s UFC 129 is for the featherweight championship as Jose Aldo defends his title against Mark Hominick.
Aldo, the champion, enters the fight as the favorite to win this bout according to oddsmakers from online sportsbook Bodog.com as he has odds of -500 while Hominick has a money line of +300. UFC 129 takes place from the Rogers Centre and will air live on Pay-Per-View at 9PM ET.
WHY PICK ALDO
Aldo (18-1) is one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world as he has run through the featherweight division over the last two years. Aldo brings some of the most vicious leg kicks in all of MMA. Those kicks took out Urijah Faber and Jonathan Brookins and the champion also mixes in powerful punches and knees that have made for highlight reel knockouts. Aldo is also a black belt in jiu-jitsu, but he has never had to show his skills on the ground because he has been so dominant on his feet. Aldo’s opponent, Mark Hominick, has lost to lesser opponents in his career and will be facing his toughest opponent to date in Aldo.
WHY PICK HOMINICK
Hominick (20-8) is a scrapper that likes to move forward at all times. Hominick is a very skilled boxer, who has excellent technique with his punching and can end a fight with one punch. Hominick’s skill set is something Aldo really hasn’t had to face, as his hand speed is something that could be an effective counter to Aldo’s leg kicks. Hominick also has good submission skills on the ground and he has the benefit of having three UFC fights under his belt, while Aldo is making his debut in the octagon.
WHO TO PICK?
As sound of a boxer as Hominick is, he has some thin legs that are going to be an easy target for Aldo. Hominick may be able to sneak in a jab or two early, but after a couple of leg kicks, his strategy may go out the window. Aldo should be able to dictate when and where the fight goes and I ultimately see him finishing off Hominick with a TKO in the second round.
