UFC Fight Night 36 will take place from Arena Jaragua in Santa Catarina, Brazil with the main card bouts airing live on Fox Sports 1 at 10:30PM ET on Saturday.
The main event of Saturday’s card is a middleweight clash featuring Lyoto Machida (20-4) and Gegard Mousasi (34-3-2). According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Machida is the favorite to win the bout, as he has odds of -230 to win, while Mousasi has a money line of +180. Both men are former light heavyweight fighters that are now contending at 185 pounds. Machida had a devastating head-kick KO of Mark Munoz in his middleweight debut and is looking to earn a title shot with an impressive win. Mousasi has been waiting for his follow-up fight since debuting in the UFC with a win. Both men come in as strong strikers, but Machida has the clear edge in terms of high-profile UFC competition.
The co-main event of Saturday’s card features a pair of middleweights as well as Ronaldo Souza (19-3) faces Francis Carmont (22-7). According to oddsmakers, Souza is the favorite in the fight, as he has odds of -500 to win, while Carmont had a money line of +350. Carmont is taking this fight on somewhat short notice and facing a hungry Souza, who looked very impressive in his UFC debut. The former Strikeforce champion has powerful kicks and a great ground game. Carmont is big and physical, but will likely be the slower of the two fighters and is more likely to fatigue. Carmont will have to find a way to make this an ugly fight and use his strength to get a win.
