UFC 142 Weigh In Results
RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (TheSpread) – The weigh-ins for UFC 142 have concluded and the two fighters involved in the main even were cleared for the title fight.
UFC 142 takes place Saturday night and the main card will air live on Pay-Per-View at 10PM ET. The event takes place from the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The main event is a bout for the UFC Featherweight Championship with Jose Aldo (20-1) defending his title against Chad Mendes (11-0).
According to oddsmakers, Aldo is the favorite to retain his title on Saturday night, as he has a money line of -250 to win while Mendes comes in with odds of +200. On Friday, both fighters came on weight for their 145-pound battle as Aldo weighed in at 145 pounds and Mendes came in at 144. Mendes has the shortest odds of any challenger to Aldo in his UFC history. Aldo will have the edge in striking while Mendes has the wrestling edge. Whichever fighter can dictate where the fight takes place should be the winner.
In the co-main event, middleweights Vitor Belfort (20-9) and Anthony Johnson (10-3) face off. Johnson is making his middleweight debut after suffering a number of weight issues at welterweight. However, on Friday, Johnson came in a whopping 11 pound overweight. Middleweight fighters can’t weigh in more than 186 pounds for a non-title fight and Johnson tipped the scales at 197. Belfort, who came in at 186 pounds, agreed to still fight Johnson on Saturday night if Johnson wouldn’t weigh over 205 pounds prior to the fight. Belfort came into the fight as a slight favorite with a money line of -120 while Johnson has odds of -110 to win. The weight issue could play a role in the fight as Johnson may not be able to add on the kind of weight he was hoping to prior to the fight while Belfort should be refreshed following his weight cut. Belfort also has the home country support in this one, so things don’t seem to be shaping up well for Johnson.
