LAS VEGAS, NV (The Spread) – Before placing a wager on any game in Week 17 of the NFL, here’s latest injury news involving quarterbacks on several different teams.
In Chicago Jimmy Clausen will miss Sunday’s game versus the Vikings after suffering a concussion on a helmet-to-helmet hit from Lions’ defensive end Ziggy Ansah last week. Jay Cutler or sixth-round rookie David Fales will make the start versus Minnesota, with Cutler being the most likely option. Cutler, of course, was benched for Week 16 following a disastrous start in Week 15 against the Saints.
In Cleveland Johnny Manziel is done for the season after he suffered a hamstring injury in the Browns’ loss to the Panthers on Sunday. Manziel was a disaster in back-to-back starts the last two weeks after replacing starter Brian Hoyer, who was also injured on Sunday. If Hoyer can’t play versus the Ravens then the Browns will be forced to promote rookie Connor Shaw from the practice squad.
In Arizona coach Bruce Arians confirmed that the Cardinals are leaning towards starting rookie signal-caller Logan Thomas against the dysfunctional 49ers on Sunday. Drew Stanton is still dealing with a knee injury and with Ryan Lindley looking inept versus the Seahawks on Sunday night, Arians might as well see what the athletic Thomas can do under center. The Cardinals are still fighting for a first-round bye although if Seattle beats St. Louis on Sunday then Arizona will be forced to go on the road to start the playoffs.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Browns are 9-point road dogs at the Ravens on Sunday while the Bears are a touchdown dog at Minnesota. The Cardinals, meanwhile, are 4-point underdogs at San Francisco at 4:25PM ET on Sunday.
