(The Spread) – Week 2 in the 2011 NFL preseason will wrap up tonight when the Giants host the Bears at 8:00PM ET.
Oddsmakers have made the Giants 4.5-point favorites over the Bears in tonight’s game, while the over/under total is currently sitting at 35.5 points. Chicago won its preseason debut with an ugly 10-3 victory over Buffalo, while New York lost on the road to Carolina, 20-10.
In that Bears-Bills game, Chicago’s offensive line gave up a whopping nine sacks. The first-teamers gave up four sacks, so it wasn’t just backups and rookies that were getting beat off the line – starters were getting it handed to them as well. Quarterback Jay Cutler has been running for his life ever since he arrived to Chicago in a trade with Denver, and it looks like he may be doing more of the same in 2011.
The fact that the Bears’ offensive line struggled so much against the Bills is a bad sign for their game this evening against the Giants, who figure to have an outstanding pass rush again this season. That said, defensive end Osi Umenyiora won’t play again this week as he continues to rehab from knee surgery, so the G-Men will be without at least one of their top pass-rushers.
These two teams met on national television last year and it was a disastrous game for the Bears. Cutler was knocked out of the game early and Todd Collins couldn’t move Chicago’s offense. The Giants ended up winning the game 17-3 thanks to a big night from Ahmad Bradshaw, who rushed for 129 yards on 23 carries with one touchdown. Brandon Jacobs also added 62 yards on six carries with one score.
