Major League Baseball has suspended Kevin Youkilis of the Boston Red Sox and Rick Porcello of the Detroit Tigers for five games for their involvement in a brawl on Tuesday night.
MLB vice president Bob Watson cited Youkilis for charging the mound, throwing his helmet at Porcello and inciting Tuesday night's brawl. Watson penalized Porcello for intentionally throwing pitches at Victor Martinez in the first inning and Youkilis in the second.
Tigers’ starter Edwin Jackson was also fined on Wednesday for what the league claims were aggressive actions during the brawl.
Boston is currently 5.5 games behind the Yankees in the AL East while Detroit leads the White Sox by 1.5 games in the AL Central. The Red Sox have beaten the Tigers the past three nights.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING.com currently list Boston’s odds to win the 2009 World Series at 9/2 and their American League Pennant odds at 9/4. Detroit is currently 18/1 to win the World Series and 9/1 to win the American League Pennant.
