The Atlanta Falcons were one receiver shy when they reported to training camp on Friday – one prolific receiver shy, that is.
Roddy White caught 88 passes for 1,382 yards and seven touchdowns last year for the Falcons, but he’s currently upset with the status of his contract as he enters the final year of his rookie deal.
With Matt Ryan and Michael Turner in the backfield, coupled with the addition of tight end Tony Gonzalez, the Falcons are expected to have one of the best offenses in the NFL. But without White, that offense takes a serious hit. He’s easily the team’s best receiver and is arguably the Falcons’ best playmaker to boot.
The Falcons say that White’s holdout isn’t a distraction, but there’s also still a full month until the regular season starts. Atlanta needs him in its offense and would be wise to sign him to a contract extension before White’s holdout because a massive issue – especially for a team that is supposed to compete for the playoffs this season.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING.COM has established the Falcons’ odds to win the 2010 Super Bowl at 24/1. Atlanta is also 13/1 to win the NFC this season.
