The Baltimore Ravens ensured that defensive end/linebacker Terrell Suggs will be around for a very long time as the two sides agreed to a six-year, $63 million contract on Wednesday.
The deal also includes a $10.1 million signing bonus and a $23 million option bonus due next March. Suggs will make $40 million in the first two years of the contract and the deal makes him the highest paid linebacker in the NFL.
Given his age (26) and overall production, Suggs was easily worth the money. The Ravens had to ensure that the core of their defense will stay in tact and after losing productive linebacker Bart Scott to the Jets earlier this offseason, they had to pony up to keep Suggs around.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING have Baltimore as a 21/1 long shot to win the 2010 Super Bowl and have also made the Ravens a 13/1 long shot to win the AFC crown. With Suggs’ contract situation behind them, however, the Ravens’ odds to win might improve over the next couple months.
