Boston Red Sox ace Josh Beckett compiled his fourth shutout of the season on Sunday to earn his 100th career victory against the Kansas City Royals.
Beckett has notched two of his four shutouts this season in his last five starts and he hasn’t given up an earned run in six of his last 10 outings. He’s now tied with teammate Tim Wakefield for the AL lead in victories with 11.
On the season, Beckett is 11-3 with a stellar 3.35 and outstanding 1.15 WHIP. He’s also amassed 110 strikeouts in 121 innings pitched. With Beckett on top of his game, the BoSox are going to be tough to beat in the second half.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sports Interaction currently have the Red Sox as a 4/1 favorite to win the 2009 World Series.
