2009 hasn’t been kind to Cincinnati Reds’ outfielder Jay Bruce, who left Saturday’s game in the first inning after fracturing his right, non-throwing wrist.
Bruce made a diving play in the first inning of the Reds’ 4-0 loss to the New York Mets, but his hand bent backwards and he wound up fracturing his wrist. It’s unknown at this point how much time he’ll miss, but chances are he’ll wind up on the DL.
Bruce leads Cincinnati with 18 home runs this season, but he’s really struggled outside of that category, hitting just .207 with 41 RBI. Chris Dickerson and Jonny Gomes should see some playing time now with Bruce’s injury.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL currently have the Reds as 55/1 long shots to win the 2009 World Series. At 42-44, Cincy is 4.5 games back of the Cardinals in the NL Central.
