The Atlanta Braves and New York Mets made a trade on Friday, swapping outfielders Jeff Francoeur and Ryan Church.
Both Francoeur and Church are both promising young talents, but promising young talents that haven’t panned out. In Francoeur, the Mets hope to add more power and definitely an upgrade for their horrendous defense.
Church heads to a better situation in Atlanta, where he’ll finally play for a manager that doesn’t consistently have him in his doghouse like Jerry Manuel always did in New York. Church arguably has a better chance of turning things around than Francoeur does, only because he’s got a better approach at the plate and can actually get on base time to time.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL currently list the Braves’ odds to win the 2009 World Series at 35/1. The struggling Mets are currently 17/1.
