Carlos Boozer had a deadline of 5:00 p.m. Eastern on Tuesday to decide whether or not he would stay in Utah next season. His decision should make Jazz fans happy.
Boozer decided not to opt out of his contract with the Jazz and will earn $12.7 million for the 2009-2010 season. He’ll become an unrestricted free agent next summer in what is shaping up to be one of the best NBA offseasons in some time.
Of course, Boozer’s decision to stay with the Jazz limits Utah’s financial flexibility this offseason. It’ll now be harder for the team to match any offers for restricted free agent Paul Millsap and the Jazz could be in huge trouble without both Boozer and Millsap next summer.
The Jazz currently have 12/1 odds to win the 2010 NBA Championship according to oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING. With Boozer now set to come back, those odds aren’t expected to change much as the summer wears on.
