The Cleveland Cavaliers finally have their big man after acquiring center Shaquille O’Neal from the Phoenix Suns for Ben Wallace, Sasha Pavlovic, $500,000 and the No. 46 pick in this year’s draft.
The deal now pairs O’Neal with superstar LeBron James, who, along with Mo Williams, helped lead the Cavs to the Eastern Conference Finals this year before losing to the Orlando Magic. With O’Neal, Cleveland now has the post player it desperately has been searching for.
For the Suns, this was a straight up salary dump as Wallace may actually retire. Phoenix can buy him out and save close to $10 million when the luxury tax is figured into the situation.
With this deal, the Cavs now have 3/1 short odds to win the 2010 NBA Championship according to oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING. After losing Shaq, the Suns are now 50/1 long shots to take home an NBA title next season.
