(The Spread) – At least two media reports have popped up in the last week stating that Titans running back Chris Johnson will holdout once the lockout lifts.
The first report was released earlier this week when the Nashville Tennessean’s Jim Wyatt suggested that he does not expect Johnson to report to Titans’ training camp without a new contract. Then on Friday morning, NFL Network’s Jason LaCanfora confirmed Wyatt’s report that Johnson is prepared for a prolonged holdout.
The three-time Pro Bowler is set to earn just $800,000 this year and has no interest in another band-aid deal like he signed before the 2010 season. There’s some speculation that Johnson is prepared for a similar holdout along the lines of Darrelle Revis’ absence from camp last summer.
The new CBA may produce a higher salary cap and a new rookie pay scale, so the Titans could have the funds to pony up to retain Johnson if they choose to. That said, Johnson apparently wants to be paid as the highest offensive player in the league, so he’ll probably have to lower his demands a bit.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog, the Titans are 50/1 to win the 2012 Super Bowl.
