MONTREAL, QUEBEC (The Spread) – For the moment, it would appeal as though Michael Sam’s career in the CFL will come to a close before it even begins.
ESPN.com reports that Sam left the Montreal Alouettes and has been placed on their suspended list. The former St. Louis Ram and Dallas Cowboy walked away from the Alouettes a day before their exhibition opener while citing unknown personal reasons.
“He wanted to go home, and that’s what he did,” GM Jim Popp said. “I don’t know why. When a guy wants to go home, they go home. He had some personal things to take care of. I wouldn’t be surprised if he returns. I’m surprised he left. I was very surprised. If he doesn’t come back, I would think football’s over for him.”
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Alouettes are 8/1 to win the 2015 CFL Grey Cup. The Calgary Stampeders are currently favored to win this year’s CFL Grey Cup at 10/3.
