Oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog have released some “Derek Jeter Specials,” which feature prop odds relating to his 3,000th hit. One of the more popular prop bets is whether or not he’ll collect the hit at Yankee Stadium (-120) or on the road at any other stadium (-120).
What will Jeter’s 3000th base hit be? A single is offered at 1/4 odds, while a double is 4/1, a triple is 15/1 and a home run has 10/1 odds.
What will the count be when he records his 3000th base hit? A count of 0 balls and 0 strikes is 17/2, a 0-1 count is 13/2 and an 0-2 count is 10/1. A 1-0 count is 13/2, a 1-1 count is 5/1, a 1-2 count is 13/2 and a 2-0 count is 6/1. A 2-1 count is 13/2, a 2-2 count is 6/1, a 3-0 count is 12/1, a 3-1 count is 13/2 and a full count is 5/1.
Bodog even has odds on who will congratulate (shake hands or hug) Jeter first after he records his 3000th hit. A base coach is 4/5 (which makes sense seeing as how they would have first access to him), an umpire is 5/1, a teammate is 7/1 and an opposing player is 3/2.
Finally, for the prop, “Will the Yankees whole team come onto the field from the dugout to congratulate Derek Jeter after his 3000th hit,” a wager on Yes has 1/6 odds while a wager on No is 4/1.
Of course, these prop odds may be up for a while as the Yankees are “strongly” considering placing Jeter (calf) on the disabled list according to SI.com’s Jon Heyman. Jeter suffered a Grade 1 calf strain on Monday night against the Indians and is likely going to need more than a week of rest.
As of this writing, Jeter is sitting on 2,994 career hits.
