The third leg and final leg of horse racing’s Triple Crown takes place today as the 141st running of the Belmont Stakes is set to run at Belmont Park from Elmont, New York.
Ever since the opening odds were released, Mine That Bird has been a favorite. Entering Saturday’s race, oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING.COM have made Mine That Bird a 4/3 favorite.
Joining Mine That Bird as horses with short odds entering the Belmont are Charitable Man at 3/1, Dunkirk at 5/1, Summer Bird at 10/1 and Chocolate Candy. Luv Gov (25/1), Brave Victory (20/1) and Miner’s Escape (20/1) are the current long shots.
Two of the more intriguing sleepers entering today’s race in terms of the potential to upset Mine That Bird are Charitable Man and Flying Private. Charitable Man is undefeated so far at Belmont Park and Flying Private is coming off a fourth place finish at the Preakness Stakes and even though he finished 19th at the Kentucky Derby, he has the experience to match Mine That Bird.
Outside of being partly cloudy, the weather in Elmont isn’t expected to be a factor, which means the track should be fast for today’s race. That doesn’t bode well for some of the long shots, which could have used a slower track to slow down fatigued horses like favorite Mine That Bird.
The odds have changed for several horses, including favorite Mine That Bird, who went from 5/6 to 4/3. Dunkirk’s odds raised from 9/2 to 5/1, while Summer Bird’s odds dropped from 15/1 to 10/1.
The 141st running of the Belmont Stakes is today, with the post time being at 6:30PM ET. The race will be live from Belmont Park in Elmont, New York and for complete odds on today’s race, see below. Also, be sure to check out our 2009 Belmont Stakes Viewing Guide for more information.
