Spangled Star has seen his 2010 Belmont Stakes odds improve throughout the week, but does the long shot really have a chance to overtake the field today at 6:30PM ET?

Bet 2010 Belmont Stakes Odds

Spangled Star Race Info:

Owner(s): Lawrence P. Roman

Trainer: Richard E. Dutrow Jr.

Jockey: Garrett Gomez

Post Position: No. 2

Updated Odds:

Spangled Star opened as a 30/1 long shot, but oddsmakers from online sports book currently list him at 25/1.

Recent Race History:

Spangled Star skipped the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, and has only raced once this season. He did, however, take third place at the G3 Withers on April 24, which qualifies as a sharp prep.

Betting Analysis:

Spangled Star is a relative unknown in the Belmont because he hasn’t raced more than once this season. He is coming off a sharp prep, but how can any bettor back this horse without seeing him race more than once? He has yet to race beyond 1 1/16 miles, which doesn’t bode well considering he’s facing Grade 1 competition for the first time all year. That said, he’ll be ridden by Garrett Gomez, who is the best jockey in the country to have never won a Triple Crown race. Still, 25/1? We wouldn’t take a flier on him for less than 40/1.
