(The Spread) – Who will be the next head coach of the Vancouver Canucks? Let’s take a look at the odds.
Canucks GM Mike Gillis fired coach Alan Vigneault last week “after a thorough review.” Cillis cited the Canucks’ lack of playoff success as the primary reason they decided to make a change. Vancouver has had plenty of success in the regular season but its suffered quick exits from the 2012 and 2013 playoffs.
So who will be the next head coach of the Canucks? According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Lindy Ruff is the favorite at 2/1, while Dallas Eakins and Dave Tippett have the next best odds at 5/2, respectively. Scott Arniel and Tom Renney are both 9/1, respectively, while Larry Robinson and Doug Houda are both 12/1, respectively.
Ruff is a retired player and the former head coach of the Buffalo Sabres from 1997 to 2013 when he was fired. He led Buffalo to the Stanley Cup in 1998-99 but missed the playoffs in four of his last six seasons with the Sabres.
In related NHL props, who will be under contract for the Rangers for Game 1 of the 2013-14 NHL season? John Tortorella and Brad Richards are both 7/2 to return, while “Tortorella only” is 5/1 and Richards “only” is 7/4. Neither of them returning has odds of 1/1.
