(The Spread) – Hines Ward may have come up short in his bid to win a Super Bowl this year with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but he brought home a different championship on Tuesday night.

Ward and his partner Kym Johnson won Dancing With the Stars Season 12 over Kirstie Alley, whom Hines admitted “everybody loves.” But heading into the final week, oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog.com listed Ward as a 1/2 favorite over Alley, who was 4/1, and Chelsea Kane, who was 3/1.
Hines and Kym dominated this season’s Dancing With the Stars if you look at the dance chart. The pair received the highest scores for their Quickstep in Week 2, their Samba in Week 3, their Rumba in Week 5, their Tango in Week 7, their Jive in Week 8, their Argentine Tango and Salsa in Week 9 and their Quickstep, Freestyle and Samba in Week 10. Only their Cha-Cha-Cha performance in Week 9 earned them the lowest score of the week.
Following the competition, Hines said that he will “be doing a tribute to Kym every time I score a touchdown,” adding: “You will see a Dancing With the Stars routine somewhere in the end zone.”
Of course, the NFL and players will have to come to an agreement on a new CBA deal if Ward is to have the chance to get flagged for excessive celebration. There doesn’t appear to be an end to the current lockout in sight and some observers believe the dispute will wipe out the entire 2011 season.
But at least Ward got to be the champion of something this year…
