The Chicago Cubs placed ace Carlos Zambrano on the 15-day disabled list after he suffered a hamstring injury running out a bunt in his start on Sunday.
Even though the Cubs will lose one of their best pitchers for two to three weeks, oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING.COM have established Chicago’s odds to win the 2009 World Series at 4/1.
The Cubs opened the season as an 8/1 long shot to win the World Series and their odds didn’t move once they got off to a poor start. But with their win over the San Francisco Giants on Monday night, Chicago has now won four straight games and their pitching is starting to come around.
Of course, losing Zambrano hurts the aforementioned pitching, but as long as guys like Ryan Dempster and Rich Harden stay healthy, the Cubs shouldn’t lose too much ground to the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Central until Big Z returns.
