In the toughest division in baseball, it’s not the Boston Red Sox, Tampa Bay Rays or New York Yankees leading the AL East, but the Baltimore Orioles. But despite the O’s 6-2 start, oddsmakers still consider them a massive long shot to win the 2009 World Series.
The Orioles have started the 2009 MLB Regular Season 6-2 and winning four of six at home to start the year and following that up with a 2-0 road trip. But oddsmakers online sports book SBG Global still consider Baltimore a 100/1 long shot to win the World Series.
The Orioles’ hot start can be attributed to their excellent offense, which has scored 50 runs already in eight games, or an average of just over six runs a game. But their pitching has also surrendered 50 runs in that eight game span, leading oddsmakers to believe that Baltimore’s start is a fluke.
Still at 100/1, the Orioles might be one incredibly value early in the season. Remember, the Tampa Bay Rays were 150/1 long shots to win the 2008 World Series and played in the Fall Classic last season.
