It was all so simple of a scenario for the Chicago Blackhawks – win and they would be in.
Instead, the Blackhawks fell short in their quest to qualify for the Stanley Cup playoffs by themselves, falling 4-3 to the rival Detroit Red Wings Sunday afternoon. So Chicago had to sit and wait until 6:00PM, when the Dallas Stars took the ice at Minnesota.
Just like Chicago, the Stars were over a -200 moneyline favorite at online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com so it was nearly unthinkable that they would be upset too. But in what was a wacky day in the NHL, the Stars were too upset by a count of 5-3 this evening when all they needed was a victory to qualify for the playoffs and keep the Blackhawks out.
So the NHL playoffs are all set with the defending champion Chicago Blackhawks backing their way in on the final day and keeping Dallas out. If the actual NHL playoffs are this exciting as they usually are, we are in for a treat this postseason.
It will be interesting to see how long Chicago’s Patrick Kane and company can remain in the NHL playoffs after providing themselves no favors Sunday.
