We’re not even through the first week of the 2009 MLB Season but public bettors are already falling in love with the Florida Marlins, who have won three straight games to start the year.
According to oddsmakers at online sports book SBG Global, the Marlins are now 35/1 long shots to win the 2009 World Series. That might not seem note-worthy, but considering the Fish were 50/1 to start the season, it’s something to keep an eye on.
The Marlins have a collective of bright young stars including shortstop Hanley Ramirez, first basemen Jorge Cantu, second basemen Dan Uggla and five-tool outfielder Cameron Maybin. They also traded for a youngster named Emilio Bonifacio, who has started the season on fire by hitting .571 with an inside the park home run in three games.
Now granted, a sweep over the Nationals isn’t anything to write home about. But obviously public bettors have taken note of the Marlins’ fast start and like what they see out of the club going forward.
