Reyes worked out Wednesday for the first time in 19 days after being sidelined because of a hyperactive thyroid. Doctors had recommended rest and a change in diet.
He was cleared to resume baseball activities on Tuesday. It was initially thought he might miss as many as eight weeks.
Reyes has not played in a spring training game, other than an intrasquad scrimmage.
He was pulled before his scheduled debut March 5 when team doctors determined he needed more testing in New York after taking blood for his physical.
Reyes will be tested weekly and remains on the diet.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING.com have made the Mets 18/1 long shots to win the 2010 World Series and 10/1 to win the National League Pennant.
