(The Spread) – If you’re searching for value on Monday night in the NHL, we think we have to underdogs that deserve a long look.
There are only three games in the NHL on Monday night and two of them are attractive based on their odds. The first game is between the Columbus Blue Jackets and the St. Louis Blues at 9:00PM ET. Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made the Jackets +117 on the line, which peaks are interest.
According to latest NHL trends, the Jackets are 4-1 in their last five Monday games and 4-1 in their last five games against a team with a losing record. Meanwhile, the Blues are 1-4 in their last five games as a home favorite, 5-23 in their last 28 games playing on only one day of rest and 1-5 in their last six games against the Western Conference.
Yes, Columbus has struggled of late. Following a six-game road winning streak, the Jackets have gone 0-3-1 on their latest five-game trip. But their offense and goaltending should carry them tonight.
The other game that caught my eye was the one in L.A. between the Stars and Kings. Dallas is +161 on the money line despite owning a 35-23-7 overall record, which includes a 17-14-2 mark on the road. The Stars haven’t faired well against L.A. of late, but they’re 4-1 in their last five games overall and 4-1 in their last five versus the Western Conference. They’ve rebounded nicely since their five-game losing streak and we think their string of luck will continue.
At +161 on the money line, it’s hard not to jump on a winning team that has been hot, even though they’re playing on the road and against a foe they’ve had issues with in the recent past.
