According to oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com, Blake Griffin was a 2/5 favorite to win this year’s Slam Dunk Contest, while DeMar DeRozan was 7/2, Javala McGee was 11/2 and Serge Ibaka was 8/1.
Griffin won the event by leaping over a car and throwing down a two-handed dunk to the accompaniment of a gospel choir. In the end, what more could the other contests do? When a dude is willing to fly over a car and have gospel singers in the background, you just have to tip your cap and give the win to him.
The dunk started when his Clippers’ teammate Baron Davis threw him a pass out of the sunroof. Griffin then cleared the 2011 Kia Optima’s hood while the Crenshaw Select Choir sang “I Believe I Can Fly” at midcourt. While DeRozan and McGee (who did two-ball and three-ball dunks) thought of creative dunks themselves, in the end they didn’t stand a chance.
For Sunday’s NBA All-Star Game, the East is a 2-point favorite over the West, while the over/under total is currently 270 points.
