(The Spread) – The Golf Channel has removed analyst Jim Gray for the remainder of the Northern Trust Open after he argued with Dustin Johnson’s caddy.

Johnson was assessed a two stroke penalty but avoided disqualification because he was late for his tee time on Thursday morning. Bobby Brown, who is Johnson’s caddy, took blame for the late arrival and subsequent penalty.
Gray went out to the course to interview Johnson about the mistake and Brown became enraged. According to reports, Brown got into a “profanity-laced” argument with Gray after Johnson cared a first round 73.
Looking to avoid distractions centered around the coverage, Gray has been removed. This is the second confrontation that the analyst has gotten into for the Golf Channel, as he also got into a spat with Ryder Cup Captain Corey Pavin last August. Gray went as far as to call Pavin a liar after Pavin disputed Gray’s report about Tiger Woods’ selection to the team.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com, J.B. Holmes and Fred Couples are now 11/2 favorites to win the 2011 North Trust Open at the Riviera Country Club in California.
