Eligible for arbitration for the first time, Upton received a raise from $435,000 to $3 million this year rather than his request for $3.3 million. Arbitrators Gil Vernon, Elizabeth Neumeier and Elliott Shriftman issued a decision Saturday, a day after hearing arguments.
Players and clubs have split the cases already decided. Milwaukee outfielder Corey Hart won his arbitration case a day earlier.
Upton hit .251 with 11 homers, 55 RBIs and 42 steals last season, a slight decrease from his production the previous year, when he batted .273 with nine homers, 67 RBIs and 44 stolen bases.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com have made the Rays a 22/1 long shot to win the 2010 World Series and an 11/1 long shot to win the American League Championship.
