Clemson could be without two defensive standouts in tonight’s college football national championship game versus Alabama.

Both Shaq Lawson (knee) and Mackensie Alexander will be game-time decisions for the Tigers ahead of tonight’s 8:30PM ET kickoff. While ESPN’s Mark Schlabach reports that Lawson will likely be able to play, Clemson beat writer Aaron Brenner noted that Alexander “might be limited or out with a hamstring injury.”
Losing either player would be a huge blow to the Tigers’ national title hopes. Alexander is expected to be matched up against Alabama’s best deep threat in Calvin Ridley and Lawson is the team’s top pass rusher. Lawson was also a Lombardi Award finalist who led the nation in tackles for loss with 23.5.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, Clemson is currently a 6.5-point underdog versus Alabama tonight while the over/under currently sits at 50.5 points.
