GREEN BAY, WI (The Spread) – The Green Bay Packers opened as nearly a double-digit favorite against the New York Giants this Sunday, but the odds are shifting.

The two teams will meet at Lambeau Field this Sunday afternoon, with kickoff slated for 4:30PM ET. The Packers earned a first-round bye after securing the top seed in the NFC, while the Giants embarrassed a hapless Falcons team in the Wildcard round last Sunday.

Despite New York’s lopsided victory over Atlanta and the Giants ability to cover as a 7-point home underdog versus Green Bay back in early December, the Packers still opened as a 9-point favorite for Sunday’s game. But with the consensus taking the Giants early in the week, the spread has dropped.

Of the 13,000-plus wagers on Sunday’s game, 68% of NFL public bettors are currently backing the Giants. Whether or not public backing has anything to do with the spread dropping is not known, but either way the line continues to fall. Once down to 8.5 late Monday, the spread is now sitting at 7.5 at most sports books, including the Las Vegas Hilton, the Mirage and The Orleans. Some books, such as Caesars, have the spread listed at Green Bay –8.

Bettors have become accustomed to the Giants playing up to their competition and seeing as how close the score was between these two teams back in December (a 35-31 Green Bay victory), there is a rather large contingent that believes New York can hang with the defending Super Bowl champs on Sunday. We’ll see.
