Bowl Pick: Holiday

The 2008 Holiday Bowl held in San Diego, California offers a great matchup this season, as the Oregon Ducks are set to take on the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Both teams come into the contest with 9-3 records.

Our team of writers and handicappers break down the matchup and hand out an Insight Bowl Free Pick, which takes place Tuesday December 30 at 8:00PM ET.

Oddsmakers from online sports book Sports Interaction have made Oklahoma State -3 point spread favorite. The over/under for this game has been set 76.5 total points.

Top Public Betting Trend: The total has gone over in four of Oregon’s last five games, while the Ducks are 5-1 straight up in their last six contests.

Key Stat: Both of these teams can light up a scoreboard as the Ducks have averaged 41.9 points per game this year and the Cowboys have posted a 41.6 PPG mark.

Game Outlook: The over is high, but take it – this game could wind up in the 80’s by the end of the night. Both of these teams can run the ball as the Ducks are averaging 277.8 rushing yards per game and the Cowboys have averaged 256 YPG on the ground. But the difference for us is that Oklahoma State has covered the spread in eight of its 11 games this year, while Oregon was just 6-6 against the number in 2008. Cowboy quarterback Zac Robinson has been fantastic this season and if it weren’t for Colt McCoy, Sam Bradford, Graham Harrell and Chase Daniel playing in the same conference this season, he wouldn’t have been overlooked as much. As long as OK State can contain Oregon’s dynamic running game and force the Ducks to pass to win, they should come away with a victory. It won’t be easy though, and this is one of the more difficult games to predict this bowl season. For the rest of our College Football Bowl Free Pick, see below.
