Post Positions Drawn

The post positions have been drawn for the 134th running of the Preakness Stakes and odds favorite Rachel Alexandra will have to break from the far-outside because she drew the 13 post position.

Bet The 2009 Preakness Stakes

Big Drama drew the first post position, while Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird drew the second post position and third-place Kentucky Derby finisher Musket Man is in the third position. The rest of the field is as follows: Luv Gov; Friesen Fire; Terrain; Papa Clem; General Quarters; Pioneerof The Nile; Flying Private; Take The Points; Tone It Down; Rachel Alexandra.

Oddsmakers from online sports book Sports Interaction have bought into the hype surrounding filly Rachel Alexandra, who is currently a 5/4 favorite to win the 2009 Preakness Stakes. She blew the rest of the field away at the Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs during Kentucky Derby weekend and that turned some heads. But can she came from the far-outside to win the Preakness?

Perhaps Rachel Alexandra’s biggest competition will come from Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird, who is a mid-range favorite at 5/1. Mine That Bird gained notoriety after winning the Kentucky Derby a couple weeks ago despite being a 50/1 long shot entering the race.

Of course, if you ask oddsmakers they would suggest that Mine That Bird won’t be the biggest threat to Rachel Alexandra. Instead, Kentucky Derby runner up Pioneerof the Nile has been given slightly better odds than Mine That Bird at 4/1.

Friesen Fire could be a potential sleeper at 13/2 odds, although he had a brutal showing at the Kentucky Derby. He did win his previous three races entering the Kentucky Derby, so he’s still a horse to keep an eye on this weekend.

The 134th running of the Preakness Stakes will be held Saturday, May 16 at the Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. For complete odds on the race, see below and for more information, be sure to check out our 2009 Preakness Stakes Viewing Guide.
