Rookie of the Year Odds
Now that the 2008 NBA Draft is officially in the books, it’s time to take a look at the odds surrounding the rookies that will take the hardwood this year. Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have the odds on the Rookie of the Year candidates for the 2008-2009 NBA Season. Bet on the 2009 NBA Rookie of the Year The Chicago Bulls decided to go with point guard Derrick Rose over power forward Michael Beasley in the 2008 NBA Draft. Beasley instead fell to the second overall pick and the Miami Heat, while the Minnesota Timberwolves chose shooting guard O.J. Mayo with the third overall pick. Point Guard Russell Westbrook (Seattle Sonics) and power forward Kevin Love (Memphis Grizzlies) rounded out the rest of the top five. Not surprisingly, oddsmakers favor Beasley and Rose for the 2009 NBA Rookie of the Year honors. Beasley is a 2/1 favorite, while Rose’s odds are 5/2. Mayo is a 7/2 favorite, Greg Oden is 4/1 and Eric Gordon is 6/1. The Grizzlies’ Love might be a great value bet at 8/1. If you like long shots, New York Knicks’ small forward Danilo Gallinari and Golden State Warriors’ power forward Anthony Randolph both have 25/1 odds to win the 2009 NBA Rookie of the Year, while Memphis Grizzlies’ Donte Greene and Toronto Raptors’ Roy Hibbert are both 30/1. Portland Trail Blazers’ shooting guard Brandon Rush is a 15/1 favorite, while New Jersey Nets’ center Brook Lopez is also 15/1. 2009 Odds for NBA Rookie of the Year Michael Beasley 2-1 Derrick Rose 5-2 O.J.
