Updated Open Odds

The 2009 British Open begins play Thursday morning from Turnberry Ailsa Course in Scotland and as expected, the odds have changed a lot over the past couple weeks.

Bet the 2009 British Open

Earlier, we posted the Early 2009 British Open Odds, and the online sports book SPORTSBETTING still has Tiger Woods as the updated favorite at 9/4 odds.

Woods has won the British Open three times, but missed last year’s even after having knee surgery following his 2008 U.S. Open victory. Woods still holds the British Open record for lowest under-par total of -19 in 2000, when he won his first British Open at St. Andrews.

Behind Woods in the odds is Sergio Garcia, who is 20/1 odds while the quartet of Padraig Harrington, Henrik Stenson, Rory McIlroy, and Paul Casey are coming in at 25/1 odds.

Woods has not competed at Turnberry, as the last British Open at the course took place in 1994, which was won by Nick Price. Woods played in his first British Open in 2005.

Garcia has the second-lowest odds because of his strong play at the British Open in recent years. Garcia finished runner-up to Harrington in 2007 after a playoff, and has finished in the top 10 in two of the last three major championships.

Harrington comes in at 25/1 odds after winning the last two Open Championships. No golfer has won three-straight British Opens since Peter Thompson did it in 1954-56. Harrington changed his golf swing after winning two major championships in 2008, and finished tied for 35th in the Masters and tied for 137th at the U.S. Open.
