Olympic Men's Volleyball Odds
LONDON, England (TheSpread) – Volleyball is one of the world-renown team sports at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Here is a look at the odds to win the gold in men’s volleyball.
According to oddsmakers, Brazil is the favorite in this event, as it has odds of 11/10 to win while other short odds to win are Russia (5/2), Italy (8/1), and Poland (8/1).
Brazil took the silver medal in 2008 and won the gold in 2004. Brazil also won the gold back in 1992. Brazil won the gold in the 2010 World Championship and in the 2011 Pan American Games.
Russia has not won the gold medal but the former Soviet Union won in 1964, 1968, and 1980. Russia has claimed the bronze in the last two Olympics. Russia won the 2011 World Cup and 2011 World League.
Italy took the silver medal in 2004 and 1996 while finishing fourth in 2008. Italy has never won gold in the Olympics and has struggled to medal in recent European and World competitions.
Poland hasn’t medaled in this event since winning the gold in 1976. They did recently take bronze in the 2011 European championships and silver in the 2011 World Cup.
