Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest Odds
BROOKLYN, NY (The Spread) – Joey Chestnut will be looking for his sixth consecutive victory when the 2012 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest takes place on July 4th.
Oddsmakers have installed Chestnut as a massive –800 money line favorite to win this year’s Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, while the field is a +500 underdog. Chestnut has an over/under of 62.5 for number of hot dogs that he’ll eat during the contest, after he chomped on 62 hot dogs last year.
Oddsmakers have also given odds for Pat “Dip Dish” Bertoletti, who has an over/under of 53.5 hot dogs eaten in this year’s contest. The competitive eater from Chicago ate 53 last year when he took on Chestnut and lost.
The over/under for number of hot dogs that Sonya Thomas will eat has been set at 40.5. She ate 40 hot dogs last year to win the inaugural women’s event, while Juliet Lee placed second with 29 hot dogs eaten. The over/under for “Margin of Victory” at this year’s Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest is officially 10.5.
Once again this year’s contest will be staked in controversy surrounding former champ Takeru Kobayashi. He did not compete in the 2010 or 2011 contest due to his refusal to sign an exclusive contract with the event’s organizers like he had in previous years. He claimed to have eaten 69 hot dogs during the contest at a nearby location, but it was later revealed that he “only” at 65. He would have beaten Chestnut’s mark of 62 had he officially been entered in the contest.Want More From TheSpread.com? Follow us on Twitter and Facebook or Subscribe to Our News Feeds!
