Portugal is now 12-9-4 all-time in World Cup action following a 4-0 loss to Germany and a 2-2 draw with the United States. Portugal was literally seconds away from being eliminated in the World Cup, trailing 2-1 to the U.S., but Cristiano Ronaldo hit a beautiful cross that led to a header goal from Varela in stoppage time. Ghana held a 2-1 lead in the second half after Asamoah Gyan found the back of the net, but Germany was able to tie the game minutes later.
