BRAZIL (The Spread) – Portugal and Ghana each need a win if they are going to advance to the knockout stage of the 2014 World Cup. They meet today at Noon ET.

This match comes out of Group G with both teams currently 0-1-1. Even with a win, Germany will have to beat the United States for either team to have a chance to advance. According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Portugal is the slight favorite in the match, as it has odds of +110 to win, while Ghana has been given odds of +200. The odds of a draw have been set at +300, while the over/under total has been set at 3 goals.

Portugal is now 12-9-4 all-time in World Cup action following a 4-0 loss to Germany and a 2-2 draw with the United States. Portugal was literally seconds away from being eliminated in the World Cup, trailing 2-1 to the U.S., but Cristiano Ronaldo hit a beautiful cross that led to a header goal from Varela in stoppage time. The game ended just moments later. Portugal controlled the ball for 52% of the match with the U.S. and held a 20-15 edge in total shots.

Ghana is now 4-4-3 all-time in its 11 World Cup matches. Ghana suffered a 2-1 loss to the United States, but then played Germany to a 2-2 draw. In the match with Germany, Ghana was quite impressive, posting 20 shots in total, with 10 coming on goal. Germany had just 11 shots and only six were on goal. Ghana held a 2-1 lead in the second half after Asamoah Gyan found the back of the net, but Germany was able to tie the game minutes later.
