USA vs. Portugal Free Pick

BRAZIL (The Spread) – Can the United States find a way to get another victory in the World Cup today, or will Portugal find a way to get back to winning?

These two meet in Group G play at 6PM ET. According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Portugal is favored to win this game, as it has a money line of -140, while the United States has been given odds of +330 to win the match. The odds of a draw have been placed at +325, while the over/under total has been set at 2.5 goals.

The United States comes into today’s game 8-17-5 in World Cup play following its 2-1 win over Ghana. The U.S. has scored 34 goals in World Cup play, while allowing a total of 57. Portugal is now 12-9-3 in its World Cup history after losing 4-0 to Germany. Portugal has scored a total of 39 goals in its 24 matches while allowing 26.

WORLD CUP FREE PICK: A win today would mean so much to U.S. soccer. It would give the Americans a spot in the knockout stage of the World Cup once again, and put it in the lead in Group F, which was thought to be one of the toughest entering the World Cup. However, Portugal comes in needing this win even more. A loss eliminates it from the World Cup entirely, and the team will come out hungry after an embarrassing showing against Germany. The United States beat Ghana, but didn’t look all that great doing it. American also still has injury issues and will be without Jozy Altidore. Portugal has the best player and a lot stronger World Cup history than the Americans. Regardless of what happened in the first matches, a win for the U.S. today would be a pretty big upset. I don’t look for that upset to take place. I see Portugal coming out motivated and aggressive and taking it to the United States for a needed three points.
