Iran wins on own goal
With one final chance on a corner kick in the 95th minute, Iran received help in its World Cup opener as Morocco’s Aziz Bouhaddouz headed it into his own net to gift the Iranians a 1-0 victory. It was only Iran’s second corner kick of the contest and it only held 37 percent of possession. It was a foul-filled match as Morocco committed 22 fouls, while Iran was called for 14. Both teams recorded two shots on goal.
Spain unable to contain Ronaldo
In its marquee opening match versus Portugal, Spain trailed 2-1 at the end of the first half before scoring twice in the second half to grab a 3-2 advantage. But an 88th minute goal by star Cristiano Ronaldo forced Spain into a 3-3 draw in what was a delightful game to watch. Spain’s first half goal was scored by Diego Costa as he evened the score at 1-1. After Ronaldo’s second goal late in the first half, Costa scored again in the 55th minute to even it at 2-2. Nacho scored three minutes later as Spain took a 3-2 advantage before Ronaldo’s late heroics. Spain held 62 percent of the possession and put five shots on goal, while Portugal scored on every shot it put on net.
Prediction:
This is a much easier draw for Spain than its first match. There is no Ronaldo on Iran, while the Spaniards come equipped with stars. The moneyline is a lot to stomach, so consider betting on the goal line if you believe this will be a rout.
