General A Rod Belmont Preview
ELMONT, NY (The Spread) – Could General A Rod challenge California Chrome in the 2014 Belmont Stakes on Saturday? The odds aren’t in his favor.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, General A Rod is 28/1 to win the Belmont Stakes, while California Chrome remains the favorite at 1/1. Wicked Strong is also 7/1 to win this weekend, while Tonalist is 13/2 and Ride On Curlin is 6/1. Other contenders who are comparable to General A Rod in terms of odds are Samraat at 28/1 and Commissioner and Matterhorn at 33/1, respectively.
General A Rod was a major disappointment in the Kentucky Derby before rebounding in the Preakness Stakes. He finished 11th in the Derby and fourth in the Preakness, finishing out of the money for the first two times in his career. He also has a third-place showing in the Florida Derby and finished second in the Fountain of Youth in February.
General A Rod’s pedigree includes Roman Ruler, who didn’t race in any of the Triple Crown events during his career. He did win the Haskell Invitational, however, as well as the Norfolk Stakes in 2004. He wrapped up his career with a third-place showing in the Travers Stakes on August 27 of 2005.
The 2014 Belmont Stakes will take place at 6:30PM ET on Saturday, June 7.
