Medal Count Belmont Preview
ELMONT PARK, NY (The Spread) – After a disappointing showing in the Kentucky Derby, Medal Count will look to rebound when he competes in the 2014 Belmont Stakes on Saturday.
Medal Count finished eighth in this year’s Kentucky Derby behind California Chrome, Commanding Curve and Danza, among others. He had a much better showing in the Blue Grass on April 12, finishing second, and in the Grade III Transylvania on April 4, finishing first.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, Medal Count is 16/1 to win the Belmont Stakes, placing him right in the middle of the field in terms of odds. California Chrome, who will attempt to win the first Triple Crown since 1978, remains the favorite at 11/10 and Ride On Curlin has the next-best odds at 11/2. Commanding Curve and Tonalist, meanwhile, are 15/2, respectively, while Wicked Strong is 17/2.
After his suspect outing in the Kentucky Derby, it’s hard to view Medal Count as a sleeper in this weekend’s Belmont. Considering we haven’t seen a Triple Crown winner in so long, everyone is trying to find the contender with the best shot to knock off California Chrome on Saturday. At 16/1, Medal Count’s odds are set right and we don’t see much value for bettors.
The 2014 Belmont Stakes will take place at 6:30PM ET this Saturday, June 7.
