Commanding Curve Belmont Preview
ELMONT, NY (The Spread) – Could Commanding Curve be a sleeper to win the 2014 Belmont Stakes on Saturday? Let’s check out his odds.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Commanding Curve is 15/2 to win the Belmont Stakes, which place his odds behind only California Chrome (11/10) and Ride On Curlin (11/2). Tonalist is also 15/2 to win the Belmont, while Wicked Strong is 17/2, Medal Count is 16/1 and General A Rod is 20/1.
Commanding Curve is best known for finishing second behind California Chrome in the Kentucky Derby. He also placed third in the Grade II Louisiana Derby but finished sixth in the Grade II Risen Star on February 22 and had no other graded stakes races before that. Thus, it was a surprise to see him place in the money in the Kentucky Derby.
There’s not much to go on in terms of Commanding Curve’s pedigree either. Master Command didn’t compete in any of the Triple Crown races during his career and in fact, didn’t place in the money in any graded stakes race that he competed in. At least Commanding Curve should be fresh after not competing in the Preakness Stakes. But other than that, he seems due for a major market correction after finishing second out of nowhere in the Derby.
The 2014 Belmont Stakes is set for 6:30PM ET this Saturday from Elmont, New York.
