Odds: When oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com released the opening odds for this year’s Preakness Stakes two weeks ago, Sway Away was +1000 on the money line. As Saturday’s post time draws closer, Sway Away is now +1600 to win.
Race History: Sway Away is coming off a fourth place showing at the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby and a sixth place finish at the Grade 2 Rebel Stakes. He also had back-to-back second place finishes at the Grade 2 Best Pal in August of last year and the Grade 2 San Vicente on February of this year. He just missed the cut for the 2011 Kentucky Derby earlier this month.
Outlook: Sway Away is the son of 2006 Preakness winner Afleet. He is winless since his five-furlong maiden victory last June, although he’s showed process in his last couple of outings. He’s run farther in each of his races, from five to nine furlongs and might be peaking at the right time. Still, he remains one of the long shots to win this Saturday.
