Affirmed was the last horse to claim the Triple Crown and that was all the way back in 1978. Seattle Slew also accomlished the feat in 1977 and Secretariat earned the honor in 1973. Citation won in 1948, Assault won in 1946 and Count Fleet won in 1943. Whirlaway (1941), War Admiral (1937), Omaha (1935), Gallant Fox (1930) and Sir Barton (1919) were the other horses to accomplish the feat.
